Morning Ride Moments

If you were tuned in to the Morning Ride program on CIUT 89.5 FM this morning, you were fortunate enough to have participated in some very special moments courtesy of Treson, Slingshot, and the entire Morning Ride family.

Listeners were treated to a powerful, live and interactive set by Treson

And just to add a little spice to the mix, show host and selecta, Slingshot graced us with a surprising and delightful guitar accompaniment......

......while on the other side of the glass, on "drums", Chris Dubbs provided the beat.

We named them, The Morning Ride Band. Yes, when the music hits, you feel no pain. Hope you're smiling too.

Start your Mondays with some love and lots of Reggae. Join Slingshot, Scabba G, Rookie Danger, Chris Dubbs, Shaggy, and Sweet Tee and MAdCast-Fuji of ItaL rOOts RaDio from 6-9 a.m. (EST) www.ciut.fm

More photos to come.

Fire Burning

Marshall McLuhan said "the medium is the mesage." For me, Reggae is the medium and today's message goes out to the sleeping masses and all the so-called world leaders, in particular to PM Stephen Harper and his government.

Some tough lyrics in this song by Marcia Griffiths and Cutty Ranks: Fire Burning/Half Idiot released on the Penthouse label.

As our corporate funded governments continue to strip away our rights using doublespeak to manufacture the consent they seek, we have a responsibility to ourselves and our children to "get up, stand up for our rights"!

RasTa: A Soul's Journey

This February, as part of their Black History Month programming, the ROM is screening the documentary film RasTa: A Soul's Journey. The film follows Donisha Prendergast (she is the granddaughter of Rita and Bob Marley) as she travels to eight countries  "to explore the roots and evolution of the Rastafarian movement and the many cultures that it has influenced."

I had the privilege of attending the world premier screening this past February 1st. The  event was well presented and attended.

From my perspective, the film does what it sets out to do. Stuart Samuels, director and writer, said he wanted to make a film that would make people unfamiliar with RasTa, "more curious, more connected to the history of this movement and its importance to today." The film is an excellent introduction to Rastafari livity through the eyes of a young woman as she journeys to greater understanding of her place in the world.

Bob Marley definitely deserves praise for bringing RasTa message to a wider audience and fittingly, the film pays tribute. I like the RasTa team's idea of taking the film to schools; it will act as a great eye opener and conversation starter.

The journey continues and the RasTa community continues to expand. There have been and are many others who continue to be integral in expanding RasTa consciousness through Reggae music. I, for one, am happy about and exceedingly grateful for that!

Thanks to the entire production team and all who turned out that night for spreading positive vibes.

The Morning Ride

Greetings and good day!

Let me begin by wishing all the MAdCast Perspectives! readers a peaceful, joyful, healthy, and prosperous 2012. As usual I have a number of great ideas I'm working on for the year and over time you will see the fruits of my labour.

I'd like to start this year's blog with a tribute to my new, radio family - the Morning Ride. Every Monday morning, on 89.5 FM CIUT,  from 6 - 9 a.m., Sweet Tee and I broadcast the ItaL rOOts RaDio Review, a new segment featuring an album review. This is another extension of our own weekly show which airs Thursday mornings from 11 a.m. -1 p.m.

In the last quarter of 2011, the Morning Ride crew graciously welcomed us on board. I'm grateful to all the members for their warmth and for sharing their love of the music. I am also thankful for the opportunity to speak to their well established and ever-growing audience, to continue my Reggae education and to develop my technical skills.

Meet the Morning Ride Crew
King Turbo's Slingshot  (a.k.a the Mayor, a.k.a. di Boss)

Sweet Tee with special guest Ron Nelson of Reggaemania

And missing from the crew yesterday was Shaggy, so we'll feature him another time.

I look forward to a great year!

I post this pic in honour of Barry Llewellyn of the Heptones who passed away at the age of 64 on Wednesday November 23, 2011 .

I am grateful for the opportunity to have seen him performing on the Rototom stage in 2008. And I am grateful for his passion and for the great music that he left us. R.I.P.
